OUR HISTORY:

The Dubuque Water Ski Club was formed in 1958 and still runs strong to this day.  If you have ever walked the river walk from E. 16th  Street to the Yard Arm Marina, you may have noticed the occasional skier, wakeboarder, or dragon boater in the Peosta Channel.   All of these water sports and more are represented at the DWSC.  This club has a rich and exciting history that is indicative of the club’s mission to promote competitive, recreational, and just plain fun and healthy water sport activities in a family environment.  The history includes hosting the first Mississippi Valley Open Water Ski Tournament in 1965.  Many tournaments were held throughout the years and didn’t end until the early 1990’s.  Annual 80 mile marathon ski races were held for several years beginning in 1968.  In 1988, the DWSC volunteered its site to host the Dubuque Riverfest Dragon Boat Races.  In 2008, the Dubuque Dragon Boat Association joined as a club member to facilitate practice sessions for upcoming competitions.  One team, Team Solid Steel, even calls the DWSC their home club.
Many civic and volunteer activities have also been hosted and supported by the Club.  Everything from boat rides and picnics for mentally and physically challenged children, to the annual ‘Learn to Ski’ and 'Learn to Paddle' events offered in partnership with the City of Dubuque’s Leisure Services group.

THE DUBUQUE WATER SPORTS CLUB MISSION:

The Dubuque Water Sports Club exists to provide the City of Dubuque and surrounding areas with water sport opportunities that promote water safety, social vibrancy, healthy living, and environmental stewardship all within a family-oriented club atmosphere.
